It has been a
long time since I visited a Cricket St Thomas show, in fact 1987 when it was
run by the Apple County Cruisers. Now the organizers are The Blue Ridge
Runners, who also have their charity show just down the road in September. |

Just two cars
made their way together - me in the 32 and Rich in the A coupe, on the way we
passed the two vans of father and son Steve and Ryan Welch. The journey to
Chard seems to take forever even though mileage wise it's not too far. Still
the Fosseway is a nice long road, you just need to keep an eye on the speed
cameras, and be prepared to get stuck behind the convoy of tractors that seem
to appear at the wrong time! |

On arrival we
paid our entrance fee, parked up, and were greeted by a good selection of rods,
customs, classics and bikes with the odd lorry thrown in. Trade stands and food
stalls were located around the show area, with a band playing if you wished to
sit down and listen. Looking down the valley you see the entrance to the
wildlife park, and the famous house - now a holiday hotel. To the right is the
lodge used in the filming of 'To the Manor Born'. |

We had a quick
talk to the other Bristol hotrodders who had already arrived then made off for
the Jungle tour, which Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park is famous for. This
alone was worth the trip down. |

A couple of
hours later we returned to the show field and began our tour of the exhibits.
This of course meant more talking to the Cornish visitors (they seem to go
everywhere), and it was also nice to see Spence's old 32 now living in deep
Devon and looking as clean as ever. |

We didn't stay
till prize giving, which was just as well - due to the A breaking down 5 times
on the way home, still now that's all sorted due to a replaced fuel pipe that
kept collapsing. To sum up a nice show, nice surroundings, and hopefully next
year we will make a whole weekend of it.
