John Hall's 1949 Austin Devon |
John's build goes
way back to 1981, when for the princely sum of 80 pounds, he bought the 1949
Austin Devon after it had spent 15 years in a lock-up. Over the next ten 10
years, while renovating his house, having kids and building a garage, he spent
about five years, on and off, to build the car, which has been on the road
since 1991, yes 18 years! |

The car has GRP
flip front, made by Street Rod Developments (Steve Rains), moulded off John's
own car, after an advertisement in a 1983 Street Rod & Machine magazine,
for orders for "Devon Flip Fronts". The rear oversize fenders are also GRP,
made by John - by producing the 'bucks' then moulds, then the finished
wings.
Front clip is HA Viva with Magnum discs, modified with coil over
shocks. Rear axle is MKII Jag. Engine at the time of the build was a 3.5 Rover
with 390 Holley and headers, which ran a best time 16.4 ET. In 2002, in the
quest for more power, John pushed the boat out and had a brand new modified 4.6
Rover V8 engine built to approximately 300 BHP - best time to date 13.4
ET. |

Ade has been into
yanks since his first ride in a '66 Impala at the age of 14. Amongst other
cars, he has owned several Pontiacs, two F100 pick ups, a Mustang and a
Cadillac convertible. This Olds came over from Peterbrough way, and Ade is just
attending to some wiring, and making new exhausts. |
