John & Lesley Cable's Fordson |
|
 |
|
|
John &
Lesley's 1953 Fordson (or Thames panel van) was originally built as a hotrod in
1984 by Geoff Kremer. To achieve the ultra low stance, ten inches was chopped
from the bottom of the body. The body was then channeled a further six inches
over the chassis, making it only 50 inches tall. |

The 2 litre
Dolomite Sprint engine, built by Jigsaw Racing, has +30 thou JE racing pistons,
a 16 valve full race head, and racing pumps, with everything lightened and
balanced. Fuel is fed through twin 45 Weber carbs, supplemented by a 100bhp
Nitrous Oxide fogger direct injection kit, all ignited by a MSD 6-way
electronic ignition. Transmission is via a full race 4-speed manual box with
competition clutch. |
|
|
Space frame
construction results in a strong but light chassis, with the car weighing just
780kg ready to race. Custom made front suspension is fully adjustable, and the
rose jointed rear carries a Dolomite Sprint axle with Quaife limited slip diff
transmission. John's best quarter mile time to date is 12.97 seconds
at 105mph, achieved at the 2007 Hot Rod Drags. |
